1) Approach & Retreat
Stimulating, motivating and training your horse to get over their fears and have confidence to move at whatever pace you decide.
2) Pressure & Release
This being the basic fundamental of natural horsemanship, priming your horse to learn and follow through with minimum or no resistance is essential. Here, the trainer applies gentle pressure until the horse moves in the required direction and then releases. The timing of the release is vital as it defines how quickly an equine will learn something new. This takes time and patience as every step here matters but is absolutely worth the ease it shall soon bring both of you.
3) Rewards & Consequences
Sounds like what is done with kids right? Well, it really is very similar. We balance the two out to an extent but choose a more reward dominating system because love really does lead to better education and training for horses and humans alike. However, there are definitely times when we say no to our beloved equines but physical force is never ever a solution. Here is where we draw boundaries, another essential element for horses and humans.
4) Desensitization
Preparing your horse to not react negatively to what he/she might not like. You can create the happiest, safest environment for them but there are things that will be out of your control. We must build their confidence to carry a rider through different external circumstances. There are various stimulants that the horses are presented with to overcome their fears. Much like we teach ourselves to stay calm and not react to what we might not like, we teach you to train your equines the same way. This is essential for the safety of all.
5) Foundation Training
A baseline of how to interact, become and stay best friends with your horse. Once you start flowing with this energy, it does wonders for the relationship the two of you share and isn’t a flowing, easy relationship always the greatest kind!

NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP
The science and art of natural horsemanship lies in understanding the equine mind and communicating through their body language. A variety of training methods are used that strive to achieve a deeper connection with the horse. It is to be understood that this training involves communicating through the body language, pressure application and release method. Tom and Bill Dorrance did well by being the pioneers to promote this decades ago.
Just like us, horses have emotional & mental well-being needs. They are fierce but loving creatures and would do anything to protect themselves. Just as we respond to kindness and encouragement, so do they. Seeing the world through the eyes of the horse is essential for a relationship based on trust, harmony and successful years in the saddle.
Your Natural Horsemanship training with us affirms the comfort and security for you and your horse.
As a child, when I witnessed the not so pleasant treatment of these animals, I knew there had to be a better way and there was. When I learnt about natural horsemanship, I knew that this was the only way forward. At Ashva Shastra, you will be taught or given a revision of these intrinsic principles of this method before we move further in your equine journey.

PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapy is an important part of your equine’s overall well-being. It must not be neglected or an after-thought. Physiotherapy ensures that they have enhanced mobility, increased suppleness and lower rates of injuries which consequently leads to better movement and performance. Through my years with equines, I discovered that a blend of Kinesio taping & The Dorn Method was extremely effective. These were both soothing in ways that ensure absolute humane treatment and an improved scale of recuperation and rehabilitation.

THE DORN METHOD
This docile, safe, manual and beneficial physical therapy massage rebalances the horse’s joints and removes blockages from the spine. It aligns the functioning of the bones, muscles, ligaments, fascia and tissues which eases the nervous and structural system. It helps your equine to regain his/her structurally balanced stance which enables proper use of the body, movement and subsequent superior performance.
Getting your equine ‘Dorned’ is essential because…
-
The pelvis is aligned, and the joints of the legs are reset to create a healthy alignment of the correct body balance.
-
It regulates the muscular and nervous system and thus relaxes the horse.
-
Allows for physical and psychological release.
-
The fluid, slow, non-invasive treatment makes the animal happy through the process and once it is done.

KINESIO TAPING
The method developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in 1973 which requires a particular Equi or Elastic Kinesiology tape (EKT). This tape acts primarily on the skin, fascia which is the connective tissue, the muscles, joints and lymphatic system. It stimulates the body’s natural healing process.
This practice allows the lymphatic system to work more efficiently when the tape is stretched over the skin which assists in reducing inflammation & clearing waste.
It is also used to activate muscles that need to work harder or slow down muscles that need to be held back.
It also allows for a speedy recovery and stronger endurance for professional racing horses.
It is a regular treatment required for all equines because of the benefits it has:
-
Relieves muscle pain, injuries & collective tension.
-
Increases the supply of oxygen and subsequently the blood flow along with the reduction of inflammation.
-
Re-educates muscle memory and improves body awareness.
-
Decreases recovery and rehab time.
-
Strengthens and amplifies a better range of all variants of motion.
